Discovering VbE

The first step to introducing VbE is for the entire school community to choose the values it wants for its students.

"Values is how we do parenting, how we encourage them, how we nurture them. Without our values, society will ultimately break down"

All the resources below are described in more detail in the section "All Resources by Format" in the index on the left. This page is a recommendation for schools of selected resources that we think will help them to understand what is VbE, and to judge whether it is appropriate for their school.

Books/Videos
The list below has suggestions from the full list in the section Books/Videos, which concentrate on providing an initial understanding of VbE. The book "From My Heart" is written by IVET's founder Neil Hawkes, and provides a thorough basis to understand VbE:

Articles
The list below has suggestions from the full list in the section Articles/Newsletters and Discussions sections, which concentrate on providing an initial understanding of VbE. The Values Blueprint is a must read for anyone wanting to understand the concepts behind introducing VbE to their school.

Courses/Conferences/Meetings
The best way to find out about VbE is to talk with VbE schools. Courses/Conferences provide an opportunity to hear from VbE schools and to speak with them in person. We have also organised for VbE schools throughout the country to host visits from others schools. Click on the links below to see what courses are available near you, and to find your nearest VbE hub school.

Values Tools
We have developed a free Self-Assessment tool that allows schools to gauge how well they teach values, and how they compare to other schools. One survey is aimed at staff, and the other at pupils. We also have details of two third party tools that help schools look at different aspects of values.

Speak to Us

Call us to speak on the phone, or arrange a visit from a current or retired Values-based head/associate. You can also register your details with us for occasional developments in the world of VbE.
